Webelos Visit with the Mayor of Seattle

The Webelos Dens from our Pack met with Mayor Greg Nickels on March 8th. The Mayor took time out of his busy schedule to talk with the Scouts and answer a few of their questions. The Scouts presented him with a token of their appreciation for his service to the City of Seattle.

Mayor Presentation

Webelos Scouts need to earn their Citizen activity badge which includes a requirement to "visit a community leader, learn about the duties of the job or office and tell what they have learned." The Scouts asked questions on topics including the viaduct, the monorail, and the Mayor's top five responsibilities. The Scouts were also able to visit the City Council Chambers while in session, and each Scout was asked to introduce himself as they were recorded on the Seattle Channel television station (skip to 1:21:40 to jump right to the Scout segment).

The Webelos Scout program provides boys with a variety of new experiences that help assume responsibility, gain maturity, knowledge, and skills, and prepare them for later experiences in Boy Scouts. There are 20 activity badges a Webelos Scout can earn, focusing on different subjects such as physical and mental skills, community, technology and the outdoors. Athlete, Scholar, Citizen, Craftsman and Sportsman are a few of the activity badges they can earn. Scouts will also earn the Webelos badge which has its own set of requirements, and they can earn the Arrow of Light, which is Cub Scouting's highest award.

The Scouts and parents from Pack 793 want to thank the Mayor again for his time and an experience they will remember for years to come.
