2006 Aquila District Cub Scout Day Camp
Our Pack had a great time at the Aquila District Cub Scout Summer Day Camp (as usual). It was held at Schoenwald Park in Burien, and was themed around Knights of the Round Table. The camp ran for four days from 9am to 4pm, and each day was packed with great activities. Our Scouts honed their archery and bb gun skills, made bird feeders, metal bowls, wooden false-bottom boxes, swords in stones, kites, wooden catapults, fire starters, and candles, colored and painted shields, cracked open geodes to find crystals inside, learned some first aid, knife safety, and fire safety, cooked some food, learned the proper gear to take on a day hike, overnight campout, and 50 mile hike, practiced "leave no trace" and worked on a conservation project, planted seeds, watched the weather, made leaf rubbings, built a castle out of cardboard boxes, practiced jousting, whipped and fused ropes, tied knots, sang songs, yelled cheers, performed skits, and of course competed in the annual egg drop. Whew, what a week!
All of this happened while we explored the beautiful grounds of Schoenwald Park which are maintained by the Kiwanis Club of Highline, Burien. The boys got to meet, play, and work with Scouts from other Packs in the Aquila District, so lots of new friends were made. If your son did not make it to Day Camp this Summer, keep it on your radar for next Summer. It is a truly wonderful experience for the Scouts.
